unRival Brand Identity, Strategy, and Website
 

Starting from Scratch

The folks at the Raven Foundation — with whom Sherwood Fellows had worked before — were partnering with new organizations to share Rene Girard’s work on undoing cycles of violence. This time, they wanted to emphasize how Girard’s insights can impact global efforts in peacemaking and justice, especially through storytelling. Aside from those ideas and their established partnerships, though, they were starting from scratch.

A New Name

In two mini-Sprints, the Sherwood team worked with them to unearth some core values. This helped their team arrive at a strategy for what exactly they wanted to build: a network of nonviolent innovators that would be empowered by inspirational stories, connections, and resources. We also got to develop a name for the initiative and landed on unRival, which was a nod to the undoing of rivalry that their network aims to accomplish.

 

Designed for Growth

Our design team took inspiration from the original Raven Foundation brand’s painted textures to develop a vibrant, inviting, and distinct visual language for unRival. Their goal to build a community of nonviolent innovators took shape in a website that centered storytelling. This brand and website has not only attracted an audience; it’s also helped peacemakers connect to one another and find the resources they need to keep up their world-changing work.
